The Trident Neptune above is the tool that reaches hold internals - frames, brackets, hatch coamings and vertical plating - at an average 5 m²/hr. Pick by geometry first, power second
They are not competing models: each solves a different geometry. On a weather deck the constraint is rarely the machine but the operator's vibration exposure, which runs from 3.1 to 8.7 m/s² across this range.
TFP200 rotary planer
Free-floating cutters on a drum mill coating and scale off the steel. A screw hand-wheel sets the depth, so a cut is dialled in and repeated, not judged by feel; the motor sits over the drum to keep the cutters loaded.

What is in the box, and what is not
Confirm the exact kit contents on your quote: they differ between suppliers.
- TFP200: the machine, with 5-point tungsten-carbide-tipped cutters on every "TCT" part number. The VoltMax kit 320.2528T adds two 82 V batteries and a dual-port charger; machine-only 320.2520T has neither.
- Trident Neptune: a 3 m × 16 mm flexible shaft, heavy-duty leaf scaling head, 6-cutter scaling head, 150 mm (6") power brush, spanner set and hand guard.
- PPT: the tool with the hub and abrasive of the part number ordered: C-flaps or star cutters, 2" or 4".
- A dust extractor. The TVS® port is a connection, not a collector. Trelawny's KAV30 pneumatic wet and dry vacuum is the matched option.
- Power cable or air hose. Cables by voltage (669.3121 / 669.3122 / 669.3124); ¾" air hose with couplings 843.0752. 4 mm² cable, to 20 m on 110 V and 40 m on 230/400 V.
- A transformer on 110 V machines: a minimum 5 kVA, continuously rated, centre-tap.
- An edge tool, for the perimeter below.

Three things worth knowing before you order
- The perimeter
The TFP200 leaves 55 mm
Every run stops 55 mm short of bulkheads and coamings, and nothing reaches round padeyes, bollards or fittings. That goes to a needle or chisel scaler; the SF11 gets closer but not into a corner. Budget the hand tool.
- The air
The pneumatic TFP200 is air-hungry
78 l/s (165 cfm): about 2.4× the SF11 (33 l/s) or the Trident Neptune Air (32.1 l/s), and over five times the air PPT (30 cfm, about 14 l/s). More than most ship's service air sustains; often the honest answer is the SF11 or a PPT.
- The battery
Cordless is not a full-shift tool yet
35 minutes per battery, 50 minutes to charge. With the kit's two batteries the duty cycle is about 70%, or 42 minutes of cutting an hour. A third battery fixes it. Vibration is the corded machines' 4.4 m/s².
Deck scalers: common questions
Which Trelawny deck scaler is right for a ship's weather deck?
The TFP200 Deck Scaler, in whichever power variant your supply can run. It cuts 200 mm wide and Trelawny's datasheet gives an average of 25 m² per hour at 3 mm per pass, which makes it the only machine in the range sized for open area. The PPT and Trident Neptune are access tools for small or awkward areas.
What is the difference between the TFP200 and the SF11 Deck Hammer?
The TFP200 is a rotary planer with a 200 mm cutter drum, a 3 mm maximum depth of cut and a 55 mm working distance from a wall. The SF11 is a percussive deck hammer with 11 carbide-tipped heads, a 252 mm working width, 3,000 blows per minute per head and a floating head that follows the plate. The SF11 gets closer to obstructions and handles heavier built-up coating; the TFP200 gives a controlled, repeatable depth of cut. The SF11 also draws far less air - 33 l/s against 78 l/s for the pneumatic TFP200.
Do Trelawny deck scalers need a separate vacuum?
Yes. The TVS® dust port is a 50 mm connection on the TFP200 and 40 mm on the PPT; no extractor is included. For coatings that may contain lead or chromate, the extractor must be HEPA-filtered.
Can I run a pneumatic deck scaler off ship's service air?
The Trident Neptune Air (32.1 l/s / 68 cfm) and the air PPT (30 cfm, about 14 l/s) are realistic on many systems. The pneumatic TFP200 is not - Trelawny's datasheet gives it 78 l/s (165 cfm), which needs a dedicated compressor. Check it against your compressor's free air delivery before ordering.
How long can one operator run a Trelawny deck scaler per day?
It depends on the model. At the corded and pneumatic TFP200's declared 4.4 m/s², an operator reaches the EU exposure action value after 2 hours 35 minutes of trigger time and does not reach the limit value within an eight-hour shift. At the petrol model's 6.9 m/s², the limit value is reached after 4 hours 12 minutes. The Trident Neptune's 8.7 m/s² gives only 40 minutes to the action value. The longest run in the range is the 4" air PPT with C-flaps at 3.1 m/s²: 5 hours 12 minutes.
Are Trelawny tools available with ATEX certification?
