Watertight Enclosures
& Buoyancy
The modular sealing system the whole Blue Robotics ecosystem is built on — locking cylindrical enclosures, end caps and domes, O-ring flanges, WetLink penetrators, buoyancy foam and the tools to test it all before you dive.

A modular pressure housing you build to size
The locking Watertight Enclosure series is the backbone of almost every Blue Robotics build. Pick a diameter from 2″ to 8″, a tube length for your electronics volume, and end caps to suit — acrylic tubes rated to 100 m, aluminium to 300 m and beyond. Tool-free locking assembly means you open it on the dock without a workshop.
- Acrylic (100 m) or aluminium (300 m+) tubes
- Custom tube lengths — build to your electronics volume
- Tool-free locking flange assembly for dockside access

The interfaces that keep the water out
Two sealing systems do the work: aluminium O-ring flanges seal the end caps to the tubes, and WetLink Penetrators carry every cable through the wall watertight. WetLinks come in M10 and M14 for cable diameters from 2–9 mm — and the push-to-terminate JPT version installs with no tools at all.
- O-ring flanges — the primary tube-to-cap seal
- WetLink Penetrators — M10/M14, 2–9 mm cable
- JPT push-to-terminate — tool-free cable sealing
- Blank plugs and bulkhead adapters for spare ports

Trim it neutral — and prove the seal before every dive
Once sealed, an enclosure needs trimming: machinable R-3318/R-3312 buoyancy foam adds lift and stainless ballast weights bring the vehicle to neutral. And before it ever goes in the water, the Mityvac hand pump vacuum-tests the enclosure to confirm seal integrity — the single best habit for protecting your electronics.
- Machinable closed-cell buoyancy foam (blocks or pre-cut)
- 316 stainless ballast weights for neutral trim
- Mityvac pump — vacuum-test every enclosure pre-dive
- Moisture-indicating desiccant for inside the housing

GeneralAcrylic vs Aluminium
The main decision when speccing an enclosure: how deep you're going, and whether you need to see in.
| Property | Acrylic Tube | Aluminium Tube |
|---|---|---|
| Depth rating | ≈ 100 m | 300 m and beyond |
| Transparency | Clear — see status LEDs / camera | Opaque |
| Weight | Lighter | Heavier, stronger |
| Heat dissipation | Lower | Higher (metal body) |
| Typical use | Ports, harbours, coastal | Offshore, deep, oil & gas |
