CSpect ALTUM · Telescopic Inspection Pole System

Inspect at Height. From the Ground.

The CSpect ALTUM is a patented carbon telescopic pole that carries a visual camera or an ultrasonic thickness module up to 18.2 metres, so one technician can survey a ship's hull, a storage tank, a crane or an offshore structure without scaffolding, rope access, a cherry-picker or a drone permit. Used in class-society survey work, and built around a single pole you reconfigure for every job.

One Pole. Every Inspection That Used to Need Access Equipment.

CSpect is a Belgian inspection specialist based in Ostend. Their flagship, the ALTUM, is an in-house developed and patented telescopic-pole system: an ultra-light carbon pole that extends to 18.2 m and accepts a family of interchangeable inspection modules. The operator stands safely on the ground or a walkway and brings the camera, or the ultrasonic probe, to the steel.

It removes the cost, the permits and the risk that normally surround working at height. SepcoTech supplies and supports the ALTUM range as part of our inspection toolkit, so the system, the configuration advice, the training and the after-sales support all come from one partner.

  • One operator, no scaffolding, rope access, MEWP or cherry-picker
  • Not bound by drone regulations: works where UAVs are prohibited
  • Swap modules on the same pole: visual, UTM, EMAT or B-Scan
  • Used in class-society survey work, deployable for hours on a charge

Access Is the Hidden Cost of Inspection

Scaffolding, rope teams, MEWPs and shutdowns often cost more than the inspection itself. These are the figures CSpect publishes for working from the ground with the ALTUM instead.

Proven on Real Structures

CSpect has deployed the ALTUM for industrial and marine names across Europe and beyond, and it is recognised by leading marine contractors including DEME. The ALTUM design won the IADC Safety Award 2024.

Pole + Module + Extras: Configure It in Three Steps

The ALTUM is modular by design. You buy one pole and pair it with the module that suits the job, a viewer, and the extras that make a particular inspection possible. Add anything below to your quote and we'll confirm the exact package and pricing.

1 · Start with the pole

The 18.2 m, 4.1 kg carbon telescopic pole is the base of every system. Buy it once: every module clamps onto the same pole, so you only pay for the pole once.

2 · Choose your module(s)

Visual camera for condition, welds & coatings; UTM Ultra-Light or UTM-with-grinder for wall-thickness; EMAT for couplant-free readings through paint; B-Scan for corrosion mapping. Mix as many as you need.

3 · Add the viewer & extras

A tablet or phone viewer, plus job-specific extras: the 3 m horizontal overhang for pipe racks & bridges, a 10 m in-tank cable, spare batteries, probes, couplant gel and flight cases.

Note on the thickness gauge. The UTM modules connect to an ultrasonic flaw detector with an A-scan plus gate and gain control. CSpect tests with the Waygate (Krautkramer) DMSGO+ advanced and USMGO+; in principle any compatible A-scan gauge works, and your own gauge can be checked for compatibility. A 1-day introductory training (at CSpect, Ostend) is included with the UTM module.

The structure is 18 metres up. The inspector stays on the ground.

From a tank farm to a crane jib to a ship's side, the ALTUM brings the camera or the ultrasonic probe to the steel while the technician stays at a safe standing point: no staging to build, no rope team to mobilise, no airspace permit to wait for.

CSpect ALTUM: Common Questions

New to pole-based inspection? Our guide explains how it works and how to choose modules, and our access guide compares scaffolding, rope access, drones and the pole.

What is the CSpect ALTUM?
A patented, in-house developed inspection system from CSpect (Ostend, Belgium). An ultra-light 18.2 m carbon telescopic pole carries interchangeable modules, including a visual camera, ultrasonic thickness measurement (UTM), EMAT and B-Scan, so one operator can inspect at height or depth from the ground, without scaffolding, rope access, cherry-pickers or drone permits.
What can it inspect?
Ship hulls and ballast tanks, storage tanks and silos, cranes and crane welds, bridges, pipe racks and offshore structures. The visual module checks condition, welds and coatings; the UTM, EMAT and B-Scan modules measure remaining wall thickness on steel and stainless steel.
How do I build a system?
One pole is the base for every job. Add the module(s) you need: visual, UTM Ultra-Light, UTM with grinder (crawler), EMAT or B-Scan, then a viewer (tablet or phone) and any extras such as the 3 m horizontal overhang, a 10 m in-tank cable, spare batteries, probes and couplant. Use the Build Your System section above and we'll confirm the package.
Is a thickness gauge included?
The UTM modules connect to an ultrasonic flaw detector / thickness gauge with A-scan and gate/gain control. CSpect tests with the Waygate (Krautkramer) DMSGO+ advanced and USMGO+. The gauge is supplied separately, or your own compatible A-scan gauge can be checked for compatibility.
Is training provided?
Yes. A 1-day introductory training for the ALTUM with UTM module is included, held at CSpect's offices in Ostend, Belgium. The system is straightforward, so after a short session, an operator can use it confidently.
How do I order or get a quote?
The ALTUM is quoted by configuration. Add the pole, modules, viewer and any extras to your quote as you browse these pages and submit the form. Your selection reaches the SepcoTech team automatically, and we'll confirm the package, pricing, training and lead time.
