Portascanner® WATERTIGHT PLUS
Simplified Regulatory Compliance
The system holds ABS Type Approval and RINA acceptance, making it an industry-recognized solution for watertight integrity checks and compliance.
According to IMO SOLAS Reg II-1/21.3, watertight doors and related mechanisms must be inspected at sea at least weekly. Traditional methods like chalk or hose tests are slower, require multiple operators, and can be messy. In contrast, ultrasonic testing is clean, quick, and can be performed by a single operator, providing precise leak severity values for efficient weekly inspections.
Three Testing Modes for Flexibility
The device offers three operational modes with adjustable gain for different structures:
Decibel (dB): Displays the raw ultrasonic signal on a logarithmic scale, as required by marine safety standards.
Linear/Numerical: Shows the signal on a linear scale for easier interpretation.
Open Hatch Value (%OHV): Calculates leak size as a percentage of the reference value for a fully open hatch cover.
Ultrasonic Tester for Hatch Covers, Watertight Doors, and Cable Transit Seals
This portable ultrasonic device is designed to check the integrity of watertight and weathertight seals on hatch covers, doors, and multi-cable transit systems in marine environments. It is lightweight, handheld, and allows a single operator to quickly inspect multiple hatches and seals in one efficient session.

Overview
Hatch Cover Testing as Recommended by P&I Clubs
Ultrasonic testing is the globally recognized method endorsed by P&I Clubs for verifying the weathertightness of hatch covers. With this ultrasonic inspection tool, crews can identify leaks and record results in decibels (dB) and Open Hatch Value (%OHV), meeting Classification Society requirements.
A hatch cover is considered weathertight when the %OHV is below 10%, and the device automatically calculates this value for fast, accurate testing. This complies with standards such as DNVGL-CP-0484 and IACS UR Z17.
