Fixed, Clamp‑On Transit‑Time Ultrasonic Flow Meter

The Permaflow® is a permanently installed, clamp‑on ultrasonic flow and heat meter designed for continuous monitoring. Using transit‑time technology, it measures liquid flow in pipes without cutting or interrupting the system. It is suitable for fluids containing less than 10% gas or solid content and operates on mains power for 24/7 use. Under ideal conditions, it achieves a measurement accuracy of approximately ±0.5%.

Overview

Clamp‑On, Fixed Ultrasonic Flow & Heat Meter

The Permaflow® is a permanently installed ultrasonic transit‑time flow and heat meter designed for high‑accuracy measurement without cutting or modifying pipework. Independently tested and calibrated in an ISO 17025‑accredited laboratory, it achieves measurement accuracies of approximately ±0.5% under ideal conditions.
Built in the UK using high‑quality materials, it offers a durable, cost‑effective solution for continuous monitoring.

Flow & Energy Measurement Capabilities

The Permaflow® can measure several different flow‑related parameters:

  • Volumetric Flow Rate — e.g., litres per hour (l/h), gallons per minute (gpm)

  • Mass Flow Rate — e.g., kilograms per hour (kg/h)

  • Heat/Energy Flow Rate — e.g., kilowatt‑hours (kWh), British Thermal Units (BTU)

Each measurement can be totalised individually, giving complete accumulated values for the measurement period.

Temperature Integration & Heat Metering

The system accepts PT100 temperature inputs, enabling simultaneous monitoring of fluid temperature.
With two PT100 sensors installed (supply & return), the Permaflow® can perform heating and cooling energy calculations—commonly required for HVAC performance verification, thermal efficiency assessments, and compliance in heat network applications.

Measurement units are selectable in both metric and imperial formats, including l/h, gpm, kWh, and BTU.

Modular Design & Data Handling

The Permaflow® is built with a modular I/O architecture, allowing users to select only the communication and functionality modules they require. Key features include:

  • USB and RS232 interfaces as standard

  • 16 MB internal memory, capable of storing over 90,000 measurements

  • Ability to log data internally or stream live data to a PC

  • A built‑in signal oscilloscope for sensor alignment and diagnostic checks during setup
