A grooming cycle, not a cleaning crisis

Grooming works because it is proactive and repeatable. Catch fouling early and often, and the hull never leaves its smooth baseline.

Inspect

Check hull condition on a schedule — ideally with a diver-free micro-ROV survey that grades fouling objectively before it builds.

Groom early

Light, frequent in-water grooming wipes incipient slime and weed away while it's easy — not a heavy scrub once shell fouling has set.

Verify smoothness

The hard, non-depleting film comes back to its glass-smooth, sub-5 µm average-roughness surface — confirmed by inspection, with no coating lost.

Log & repeat

Record each groom against the vessel so the hull's condition — and its fuel and CII baseline — stay defensible, docking after docking.

In-Water Grooming — FAQ

What exactly is in-water grooming?
Light, frequent cleaning of the underwater hull while the vessel is afloat — wiping fouling away early, before it establishes, rather than waiting for a heavy clean once growth has built up. SEA-SPEED's hard, non-depleting foul-release film is designed to be groomed: its glass-smooth surface is restored without wearing the coating away.
Won't all that cleaning wear the coating out?
No. SEA-SPEED V 10 X ULTRA is a hard-film, non-depleting, non-ablative coating — it is never consumed. It tolerates 1,000+ underwater cleans without film loss, so grooming restores the smooth surface instead of slowly eroding it the way cleaning a soft ablative antifouling does.
Does grooming release biocides into the water?
No. SEA-SPEED contains no TBT, copper or zinc and nothing is leached, so grooming sheds no biocide. Cleaning a biocidal antifouling, by contrast, removes the poisoned top layer and releases biocide — which is increasingly restricted in ports.
How does grooming protect fuel and CII?
Drag rises continuously as fouling builds, so a hull groomed early and often stays close to its glass-smooth baseline and holds the 4–12% fuel saving the coating delivers — keeping the EEXI and annual CII rating where you want it, between dockings.
Who carries out the grooming?
