Why LUMA

Beyond acoustic. Beyond tethers.

Underwater data has always meant a trade-off — slow acoustic links, snag-prone cables, or laser modems that need millimetre alignment. LUMA removes all three constraints at once.

Acoustic Is Slow

Acoustic modems top out at a few kilobits — far too little for live video. LUMA X delivers up to 10 Mbps over the same kind of link.

Tethers Tangle

Umbilicals snag, drag and limit range in confined structures. An optical link cuts the vehicle free entirely.

Lasers Need Aiming

Narrow-beam laser modems demand precise pointing. LUMA's 120° cone simply needs two units roughly facing each other.

Power Is Scarce

Battery nodes can't afford power-hungry comms. LUMA moves each bit with 1,500× less energy than the fastest acoustic modem.

Wi-Fi-class data rates, through seawater

Blue-green light sits in the transmission window of seawater — the spectral band where absorption is lowest. LUMA exploits it with precisely tuned 470 nm LEDs and high-speed modulation, reaching data rates an acoustic modem can't approach while sipping a fraction of the power.

LUMA X-UV — operates in any lighting condition

The LUMA X-UV variant uses ultraviolet light instead of blue — so it keeps a clean link in the presence of other light sources, including ROV work lights and ambient daylight in shallow water. 10 Mbps, 6,000 m depth, titanium housing, serial and Ethernet interfaces.

Two form factors. One optical standard.

The compact LUMA 100 and 500 boards drop into sensor nodes and docking stations, while the cylindrical LUMA X carries the high-speed emitter and pressure housing rated to full ocean depth. Every model speaks the same software-selectable serial and Ethernet interfaces, so integration is consistent across a whole fleet.
