The Checks a Fleet Lives By: Proven, Not Assumed

Tankers, bulkers, container, RoRo and gas carriers all depend on the same invisible things: that compartments seal, that fire cylinders are full, and that the steel is still thick enough. Coltraco's non-invasive instruments let the crew prove each one, with one operator, a number on a screen, and a logged result for class and port-state inspection.

Four passive systems, all silent until they fail

A leaking hatch seal, a slowly emptying CO2 cylinder, a dropping inert-gas pressure and a wasting bulkhead share one dangerous trait: none of them shows on a walk-round, and none announces itself until the moment it matters. According to Allianz's Safety & Shipping Review 2023, fire was the second-leading cause of large-ship total loss in 2022, after foundering, which is overwhelmingly driven by water ingress. These are exactly the two failure modes a commercial fleet spends its survey budget guarding against.

Coltraco's ultrasonic instruments turn each of those invisible risks into a number the crew can read and log, without flooding tests, cylinder removal, hot-work permits or a dockyard. SepcoTech supplies and supports the full range, with calibration and spares from one partner.

  • Single-operator handhelds: checks that actually get done on schedule
  • Non-invasive: nothing opened, drained, discharged or taken offline
  • Logged, repeatable readings that provide evidence for class and port-state inspection
  • One supplier for instrument, calibration, spares and technical advice

The Coltraco Instruments a Commercial Fleet Specifies

Four jobs, four instruments: each links through to full specifications, the brochure and the quote builder.

The Regimes These Readings Support

Each instrument produces logged, repeatable evidence against the regulations a commercial fleet already works to.

Watertight Doors

IMO SOLAS Reg II-1/21.3 requires watertight doors to be inspected at least weekly at sea. The Portascanner logs each result.

Hatch Covers & Transits

IACS UR Z17 / DNVGL-CP-0484 for hatch-cover weathertightness, and IACS UR Z28 for multi-cable-transit registers (vessels contracted after 1 Jul 2021).

Fixed Gas Fire Systems

SOLAS FSS Code (Chapter 5) and IMO MSC.1/Circ.1318/Rev.1 require fire cylinders to be verified at ≥90% charge at least every two years.

Structural Thickness

Hull, bulkhead and pipework wastage measured to your classification society's survey regime, through coatings, so the same point is re-read each survey.

Aboard tankers, bulkers and gas carriers worldwide

Coltraco reports its instruments aboard roughly 17% of the world's ~60,000 ships, present on gas carriers, bulk carriers, oil tankers and chemical/product carriers, and used by leading ship managers and owners including A.P. Møller–Maersk, Hapag-Lloyd, V.Ships, BP Shipping, Wallem, Thome and Synergy Marine.
