Two physics, one job: confirm the agent is there

Fixed fire-suppression cylinders sit charged for years, and nobody notices a slow loss of agent until the system is called on and falls short. Ultrasound closes that gap. For liquefied agents — CO2, FM-200®, NOVEC™ 1230 and clean agents — a sensor on the outside of the cylinder detects the gas-to-liquid line, so the Portalevel® shows whether the bottle is full; the Portasteele® Calculator then turns that level into agent weight in kilograms, the figure regulations ask for, to within 1%. For non-liquefied inert gases — Inergen®, nitrogen, argon — there is no liquid line, so the Portagas® verifies readiness by pressure instead. Together they cover every fixed gaseous set, and the method aligns with the IMO SOLAS FSS Code (Chapter 5), NFPA 2001 and ISO 14520.

Which fire-suppression agents can be checked?
Portalevel® reads the level of liquefied agents — CO2, FM-200, NOVEC 1230, Halon, FE-13, FE-25 and NAF S III. For non-liquefied inert gas (Inergen, nitrogen, argon) the Portagas® measures pressure instead.
Do I have to remove or weigh the cylinders?
No. The measurement is non-invasive — the sensor reads through the cylinder wall with the cylinder installed and armed. Weighing means detaching pressurised cylinders, a procedure linked to accidental discharges; unintended suppressant releases caused around 72 deaths and 145 injuries, mainly in the maritime industry, between 1975 and 2000.
What is the difference between level, weight and pressure?
Portalevel® indicates the liquid level of a liquefied agent; Portasteele® converts that level into agent weight in kilograms to within 1%; Portagas® measures the pressure of non-liquefied inert-gas systems such as Inergen.
Can it be used in an ATEX / hazardous zone?
Yes — use the Portalevel® IS, certified for ATEX and IECEx Zone 1 and Zone 2, which removes the need for a Hot Work Permit to inspect the system.
